Pumpkin for your face!

So another health-minded friend of mine told me that Pumpkin is rich in Salicylic Acid which is so great for the zits and blemishes. A long time ago when I worked at Bath and Body Works I fell in love with a facial line called Pure Simplicity. It was created by the chemist from Estee Lauder, when she joined forces with BBW. The Pure Simplicity line has gone away and replaced with other things, which is the life story of BBW and drives many consumers crazy, I know. But one thing they did keep was the Pumpkin Mask that even Oprah flipped over. The True Blue Spa line at BBW picked it up and I'm SO grateful, because I trust the True Blue Spa brand as well. My face would glow after using this mask. 
But the beautiful thing about Pumpkin as opposed to clay or mud masks is that it is available everywhere. So you can make your own mask! guide Anitra Brown featured a really great and simple pumpkin mask recipe that is worth trying, only three ingredients. There are other pumpkin mask recipes out there but they involve eggs and other crazy things. The less ingredients the better. I'm gonna try this one!

This home-made pumpkin mask is from Erika Katz, author of "Bonding Over Beauty". She put these ingredients together because Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A, which soothes skin and helps reduce fine lines. 
Honey is hydrating, toning, and tightens the skin. Heavy cream has natural lactic acid, which exfoliates the skin.
I recommend you use organic pumpkin for this mask. Look at the ingredient to make sure it's 100% pureed pumpkin with no preservatives, and not pumpkin with extra spices added for pie.
Since you're only using two teaspoons, you can use a melon baller to scoop out that amount onto a cookie sheet, freeze it, and then put them in a freezer bag for later. Or make a pumpkin pie! It won't miss the two teaspoons!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes


  • 2 tsp canned pureed pumpkin
  • 1/2 tsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp heavy whipping cream


Mix all ingredients in a freshly washed bowl and mix with a freshly washed spoon and take to where you're going to give yourself a home facial.
Cleanse your skin.
Apply pumpkin mask to your face and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. It's best if you relax while the mask is on.
Use a washcloth soaked in warm water to remove the mask, then apply your usual skin care products -- toners, any treatment serums, moisturizer, eye cream, lip balm and sunscreen (if it's daytime).

I can't wait to try this one!!! So simple and I bet it smells really good too. I'll have to bake a pumpkin pie at the same time so I don't eat it off my face :) I had no idea of the skin benefits that pumpkin has.
